Bayern Munich and Liverpool Competing for Xabi Alonso as Managerial Candidate

Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeness has revealed that both Bayern Munich and Liverpool are vying to secure Xabi Alonso as their next manager. The Spaniard, who has enjoyed a successful coaching spell with Bayer Leverkusen, is on the radar of both clubs as they seek new leadership.

Alonso, who previously played for both Bayern Munich and Liverpool during his illustrious career, has impressed in his current role at Leverkusen, guiding the club to the brink of their first Bundesliga title.

Hoeness emphasized the competition among top clubs for Alonso’s services, highlighting Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Leverkusen as contenders alongside Bayern Munich.

“Clubs like Liverpool, Real Madrid, Leverkusen, and FC Bayern are working on it,” said Hoeness in an interview with Ran Sport. “He’s proven that he can be a coach for the big time.”

With Thomas Tuchel set to depart Bayern Munich at the end of the season and Jurgen Klopp stepping down at Liverpool, both clubs are actively seeking a new manager. However, Hoeness acknowledged the challenge of persuading top managerial talents to join their ranks, given the competitive landscape.

Alonso’s impressive coaching tenure at Leverkusen, coupled with his experience as a player at top clubs like Real Madrid and Liverpool, has made him an attractive prospect for Bayern Munich and Liverpool. Despite his current contract with Leverkusen running until 2026, both Bayern and Liverpool are keen to secure Alonso’s services for the upcoming seasons.
