Bashir Ahmad Criticizes APC’s Approach to Politics

Former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has raised concerns over the political approach of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), comparing it unfavorably to that of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement shared via his X handle on Wednesday, Ahmad highlighted that former Presidents Musa Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan refrained from criticizing former President Olusegun Obasanjo despite being from the same party, the PDP. He suggested that this demonstrated a more strategic political approach by the PDP.

Ahmad expressed his disappointment in the APC’s tendency to amplify the faults of the previous administration rather than acknowledging its achievements. He criticized some officials of President Bola Tinubu’s administration for continuously faulting Buhari’s government for the current economic challenges in the country.

He remarked, “The PDP seems to have a more skillful approach to politics than we do in the APC. It’s rare to find instances where President Yar’adua’s (PDP) government criticized President Obasanjo’s (PDP) or where President Jonathan’s (PDP) government faulted President Yar’adua’s (PDP).”

Ahmad emphasized the need for unity within the ruling party, stressing that President Tinubu requires full support from APC members, especially as the 2027 elections approach. He urged the party to focus on discreetly addressing the failures of the previous administration while building upon its accomplishments.

Highlighting the need to shift focus away from providing ammunition to the opposition, Ahmad urged the APC to adopt strategies that put them on the defensive, allowing the government to concentrate on delivering its best for the country.
