Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen Set for Knee Surgery After Injury Against Villarreal

Barcelona goalkeeper and captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen is scheduled to undergo knee surgery on Monday after rupturing his patella tendon during Sunday’s 3-1 La Liga win over Villarreal. The 32-year-old German international sustained the injury in the first half when his right knee buckled upon landing while catching the ball, forcing him to be carried off on a stretcher.

Barcelona has not yet provided a recovery timeline but stated that updates will follow after Ter Stegen’s operation. The veteran goalkeeper, who has made over 400 appearances for the club since joining from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2014, has been instrumental in Barcelona’s strong start to the season.

Hansi Flick’s side secured their sixth consecutive league win, moving four points clear of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga. However, Ter Stegen’s absence will be a significant blow as Barcelona looks to maintain their early momentum.
