Barcelona has reportedly issued an ultimatum to midfielder Frenkie de Jong regarding his future, amidst swirling speculation of a €60 million bid from Tottenham Hotspur.
The Catalan club has tabled a contract offer for De Jong since November, as per Mundo Deportivo, and is now demanding a decision from the Dutch midfielder: either sign the offered contract or present an alternative offer. Adding fuel to the fire, recent reports from Jijantes suggest that Tottenham has indeed submitted a €60 million bid for De Jong’s services, along with a lucrative four-year deal mirroring his current wages at Camp Nou.
With De Jong’s current contract expiring in 2026, Barcelona recognizes the impending need to secure a substantial fee for the 26-year-old this summer. The club aims to enter the next transfer window with clarity regarding De Jong’s intentions, whether it be a commitment to stay or a desire to move on. Competition for the midfielder’s signature is fierce, with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain also expressing interest. Barcelona has set a steep asking price of €100 million for De Jong, reflecting his importance to the squad.
