Barcelona Eyes Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim as Xavi’s Successor

Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim has emerged as a prime candidate to replace Xavi at Barcelona, following the announcement of the Spaniard’s departure from the club at the end of the season. Barcelona has reportedly earmarked Amorim as their preferred choice to take over the managerial reins, ahead of other contenders such as Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

Amorim’s impressive work at Sporting CP, particularly guiding the club to their first league title in 19 years in 2021, has garnered attention from top European clubs. While Bayern Munich and Liverpool have also shown interest in the Portuguese tactician, Barcelona’s pursuit of Amorim places them ahead in the race for his signature, providing them with an early advantage in the managerial market.

Despite Barcelona’s keen interest in Amorim, the club faces competition from other potential candidates. Former Bayern Munich and Germany coach Hansi Flick has reportedly engaged in “concrete talks” with Barcelona regarding the managerial position, while Thomas Tuchel, currently in charge at Chelsea, remains in contention. Additionally, Brighton coach Roberto De Zerbi, initially considered a contender, is believed to have slipped down the pecking order in Barcelona’s managerial hunt.
