In a tragic incident early Sunday morning, bandits raided Gindin Duste Makyali in the Kufana District of Kajuru Local Government Area, Kaduna State, resulting in the death of at least 12 people. Sources reported that the assailants, numbering in large groups, launched the attack around 5 am, setting fire to at least 17 houses and firing indiscriminately.
The attack, which lasted for several hours without any sight of security operatives, occurred amidst a wave of violence in the state, with previous attacks in Igabi and Kauru Local Government Areas on Friday night. In those incidents, bandits targeted communities in Gwada and Kassam in Igabi, as well as Kauru, resulting in nine fatalities, seven injuries, and numerous abductions, including a retired Central Bank of Nigeria director and his wife.
While Igabi is situated in the northern part of the state, Kauru lies in the Southern Kaduna axis. Reports indicate that six people were killed, five abducted, and two injured in Kauru LGA, while three were killed, seven injured, and 30 kidnapped in Igabi LGA.
Though there has been no official confirmation from the police, sources revealed that the attack took place near a security post, with 12 residents reportedly burnt to death in their homes, while nine sustained injuries.
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, condemned the renewed violence, expressing shock at the latest attack. Through the Overseeing Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, the governor directed the State Emergency Management Agency to provide urgent assistance to the affected communities in Kajuru and Igabi LGAs, where houses and valuables were destroyed.
