Reality star and actress, Bamike Olawunmi, popularly known as Bambam, has dismissed the notion of ‘sex for roles’ within the Nigerian movie industry, describing it as a “scam.” Bambam revealed that filmmakers exploit overzealous young actresses, making promises of significant roles only to renege after intimate encounters.
In the recent episode of the Secrets Behind the Scenes podcast, Bambam shared her personal experience, recalling an instance where a producer handed her the keys to his hotel room after casting her in a cameo role. She emphasized the importance of aspiring actresses not falling victim to the ‘sex for roles’ ploy, emphasizing that the promised rewards are often meager.
According to Bambam, “Sex for roles is a scam. It’s not worth it. Some of them [victims] what they are paying them at the end of that production is not more than N50,000, N100,000. Don’t be deceived o! It’s a lie. It [sex for role] is a scam.”
She further disclosed a personal encounter where she was offered only N5,000 for a role, accompanied by the filmmaker giving her his hotel room key. Bambam, however, refrained from mentioning names.
Bambam’s candid revelation sheds light on the exploitative practices within the industry and serves as a cautionary message to aspiring actresses to be wary of such deceitful tactics.
