France Football, the organizers of the prestigious Ballon d’Or awards, are set to introduce a new rule starting from this year’s ceremony, which will take place on October 28. Traditionally, the winner of the award was interviewed prior to the event, but this practice has now been scrapped.
According to The Athletic’s Mario Cortegana, the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner will only discover their victory when the envelope is opened live during the ceremony. This change marks a significant departure from the usual process where the recipient was informed beforehand.
Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior is widely anticipated to claim the coveted prize, following his outstanding performances that contributed to Los Blancos’ LaLiga and Champions League titles last season. He is seen as a favorite ahead of other contenders such as Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, and Rodri.
As the ceremony approaches, excitement continues to build around who will ultimately take home the prestigious award under this new format.
