Australia Snaps Losing Streak with Dramatic Win Over Argentina in Rugby Championship

Australia ended their eight-match Rugby Championship losing streak with a nail-biting 20-19 victory over Argentina, sealed by Ben Donaldson’s last-minute penalty in La Plata.

The Wallabies, who had not won a Rugby Championship match since 2022, trailed for much of the game. Argentina took an early 10-0 lead with a try from Juan Martinez Gonzalez and three penalties from Santiago Carreras. Despite the challenging conditions, Australia rallied with tries from Jake Gordon and Rob Valetini, and Noah Lolesio added crucial points with a penalty and two conversions.

The match reached a dramatic conclusion when Argentina was penalized just before the final whistle, giving Australia a chance to clinch the win. Donaldson, 25, calmly slotted the penalty after the clock had passed 80 minutes, securing a much-needed victory for the Wallabies.

The win, however, still leaves Australia at the bottom of the Rugby Championship standings, trailing behind Argentina, New Zealand, and leaders South Africa. The two teams will face off again in a rematch on September 7 in Santa Fe.
