The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended Adebayo Peter for the alleged murder of his friend, identified only as Lekan, in Akure, the state capital. The tragic incident unfolded on Friday evening in the Ireakari-Oloko area of Akure, leaving the community in shock and disbelief.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, disclosed that the case had been transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation. While confirming the arrest, Odunlami refrained from commenting on whether the suspect was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.
Details surrounding the motive for the heinous act remain unclear, leaving residents bewildered by the sudden and senseless violence. However, sources familiar with the situation suggested that the suspect had consumed a substance known as “ice” before the fatal altercation. “Ice” is a crystal form of amphetamine-based drugs, known for its potent and often dangerous effects on users.
According to eyewitnesses, including a mutual friend from Delta State, the discovery of Lekan’s lifeless body in a pool of blood sent shockwaves through the community. The friend’s attempts to intervene were met with resistance from Adebayo, who initially denied access to the room where the grisly scene unfolded.
Upon gaining entry, the harrowing sight of Lekan’s battered body prompted immediate calls to law enforcement authorities, who swiftly responded to the scene. Despite efforts to save him, Lekan succumbed to his injuries, with his body subsequently transported to a morgue in Akure.
