Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, has directed an investigation into the death of hotel manager Achimugu James Etubi in Abia State, amidst allegations of brutal torture by Nigerian Army personnel.
The incident occurred after the reported drowning of Nigerian Air Force cadet Emmanuel Onyemere in the hotel’s swimming pool. In response to the tragic events, the Army has expressed deep concern over the allegations against its personnel and initiated a comprehensive probe into the circumstances surrounding Etubi’s death.
In a statement released by Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, the Chief of Army Staff emphasized the importance of uncovering the truth and holding accountable anyone found responsible for wrongdoing.
Offering condolences to the families of both the deceased, the Army assured the public of its commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and discipline. It pledged to ensure that justice is served, with personnel implicated in any wrongdoing facing appropriate legal sanctions.
