The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Esan North East local government area of Edo State has raised concerns over the composition of Governor-elect Senator Monday Okpebholo’s 24-member transition committee. The party claims that some individuals included in the team are not APC members, particularly singling out former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Matthew Egbadon, who is a member of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
In a press briefing on Sunday, APC local chairman Emmanuel Ibhagbemien accused Egbadon of working against the party during the September 21 governorship election. He further alleged that a business mogul and a traditional ruler from Edo Central orchestrated Egbadon’s inclusion in the committee, labeling it an attempt to infiltrate the party’s ranks.
“This inclusion is not only unusual but a blatant affront to the integrity of our party,” Ibhagbemien said. He warned that the APC would not allow “intruders or opportunists” to hijack the party’s internal processes, calling on those responsible to cease their interference.
The APC has vowed to take action if those allegedly involved do not disengage from what they view as undue meddling in party affairs. “We stand ready to defend the integrity and core values of our party,” Ibhagbemien stated.
