Leaders of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ondo state, operating under the banner of “Aborigine,” have officially endorsed Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as their preferred aspirant for the upcoming governorship primary election on April 20.
In a press briefing held in Akure, Ambassador Sola Iji, the leader of the group, announced the endorsement, stating that all eleven aspirants had undergone screening by a committee led by Hon(Mrs) Christy Olufowose.
According to Iji, Governor Aiyedatiwa scored 777 points, while Wale Akinterinwa and the late Dr. Paul Akintelure polled 587 and 612 points respectively during the screening process.
He revealed that after the screening, a 9-man committee was tasked with further evaluating the aspirants and presenting three of them for consideration by the group’s leadership. The committee recommended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Hon Wale Akinterinwa, and Dr. Paul Akintelure.
After thorough deliberations, the group decided to offer the right of first refusal to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, considering his achievements and commitment to infrastructural development since assuming office. These achievements include the payment of backlog salaries, financial support to universities, and the provision of free shuttle buses for students.
Iji emphasized that the decision to endorse Governor Aiyedatiwa was aimed at ensuring the victory of the APC in the primary election and the subsequent general election, as well as promoting good governance in the state.
However, he expressed lamentation over the neglect of members of the group, who were instrumental in the formation and growth of the APC in Ondo State. Despite their significant contributions, they have been sidelined and abandoned, according to Iji.
