APC Accuses Obaseki of Plotting Mass Protests in Edo State

The Edo State Governorship APC Campaign Council has accused Governor Godwin Obaseki of planning mass protests to shut down Edo State starting September 15, 2024. The council alleges that Obaseki is collaborating with other PDP governors to incite a national crisis.

In a statement by Prince Kassim Afegbua, Director of Media for the APC campaign, it was claimed that Obaseki revealed his intentions during a meeting at the Edo State Government House on September 8, 2024. The meeting allegedly included individuals involved in the killing of Inspector Akor Onu, who have not yet been apprehended. Afegbua further accused an Assistant Commissioner of Police of shielding these individuals, reportedly in collaboration with Obaseki’s Chief Security Officer.

The statement also claimed that seven APC members and three PDP members were arrested last week by the 4th Brigade Commander in Inikorogha. While the PDP members were allegedly released immediately, the APC members were detained until their legal team intervened on Sunday.

Furthermore, the APC Campaign Council accused Obaseki of encouraging PDP-controlled states to delay the resumption of schools as part of a larger protest against the APC-led Federal Government. The council called on security agencies, particularly the Inspector General of Police, to intervene before the Edo governorship election, which is just two weeks away.

As of the time of reporting, Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, had not yet responded to the allegations.
