Angola National Team Motivated with Rewards Ahead of AFCON Quarterfinal Against Nigeria

In preparation for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarterfinal match against Nigeria, the Angola national football team, also known as the Palancas Negras, has received significant incentives. Following their impressive 3-0 win over Namibia in the Round of 16, the team has been awarded both cash and material gifts, further boosting their morale ahead of the crucial clash.

The Banco Angolano de Investimento, an Angolan bank, has announced a reward for each player and member of the coaching staff, amounting to five million Kwanzas, roughly equivalent to N5.41 million. Additionally, Aguinaldo Jaime, President of the Board of Directors of UNITEL, a leading Angolan mobile phone company, presented each member of the Angolan delegation with an iPhone 15, complete with a year’s worth of free calls, SMS, and internet service.

Furthermore, Sodiam EP, another major company, has pledged a significant cash prize of $250,000 to both the national and technical teams should Angola secure a place in the final of the 34th edition of the Nations Cup.

The Angola team is set to face the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on Friday, February 2, 2024, at 6 pm. Both teams enter this match with strong records, having remained unbeaten in the tournament thus far. Nigeria’s journey to the quarterfinals included victories over Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, and four-time champions Cameroon.
