Analyst Criticizes Labour Party Supporters for “Selective Amnesia” Over Otti’s Political Shifts

Political analyst Uzokwe Ndubuisi has accused Labour Party (LP) supporters of “selective amnesia” in their reaction to Deputy Speaker Rt Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu’s call for Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Ndubuisi’s criticism focuses on what he views as hypocrisy among LP supporters who have seemingly overlooked Otti’s history of changing political affiliations.

Ndubuisi expressed frustration over what he sees as a double standard, noting that Otti, who initially ran for governor under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in 2015 and 2019, joined the APC in 2020 after his failed gubernatorial bids. When Otti did not secure the APC’s ticket for the 2023 elections, he switched to the Labour Party and eventually won the governorship.

He challenged LP supporters for their selective memory, highlighting Otti’s visit to Imo State in October 2023, where he declared the APC’s era in the state was over and urged Governor Hope Uzodinma to prepare his resignation. Ndubuisi questioned why Otti’s aggressive campaigning in Imo State was not met with the same criticism that Kalu’s invitation received.

Ndubuisi speculated on whether Otti would display similar commitment to the Labour Party if campaigning in Edo State, suggesting that similar controversies might arise. He concluded by quoting Franklin Raj, emphasizing that “Selective Amnesia” allows individuals to remember only what fits their narrative, thus reflecting on the challenges of political loyalty and consistency in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
