Amaechi Refutes Claims of Regret Over Joining APC, Calls Report Fabricated

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has dismissed a viral report circulating on social media that claims he regrets joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The report, which alleges that Amaechi expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership and treatment, has been labeled as false by close allies of the former minister.

The controversy began after Chief Tony Okocha, the caretaker committee chairman of the APC, claimed that Amaechi had advised against involving him in any party activities. However, in a swift response, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a close confidant of Amaechi, issued a statement refuting the report.

According to Eze, Amaechi never held a media interview with any unknown person and did not authorize anyone to spread such misinformation. Eze emphasized that Amaechi remains committed to the APC and does not regret his role in building and strengthening the party.

Eze further stated that the former Governor of Rivers State is concerned about the insensitivity of the ruling class towards the hardships faced by ordinary Nigerians, but this has no bearing on his allegiance to the APC. He criticized the report as the work of “political charlatans” intent on maligning Amaechi’s reputation.

Eze clarified that Amaechi’s current silence in party affairs is a personal choice and not a sign of discontent. He stressed that Amaechi, as a key figure in the formation of the APC, remains a dedicated party man and has no regrets about his contributions, including his efforts in transforming Nigeria’s rail transportation system and supporting the election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

In his statement, Eze revealed that he had informed Amaechi about the false report, which Amaechi vehemently denied. Amaechi reportedly responded, “I did not say that rubbish,” and expressed awareness of the individuals behind the misleading claims, dismissing their efforts as futile.
