Nigerian singer Davido has highlighted the global rise of the afrobeats genre, asserting that its artists now rival major pop and hip-hop stars like Drake in ticket sales. During a panel discussion with the United States Advisory Council on Africa Diaspora Engagement and Leaders in Nigeria’s Creative Industries hosted by Hiptv, Davido emphasized the financial impact of afrobeats.
“Afrobeats Artists are selling the same tickets as Drake. Now one song as an afrobeat artist can change your generation,” he said.
Davido also encouraged young artists to focus on collaborating within their community instead of seeking international features, noting, “When you collaborate with your friends, they put their all.”
