ABC Transport has announced its collaboration with security agencies in efforts to rescue one of its drivers and two passengers who were abducted by unknown gunmen while traveling from Enugu to Abuja.
According to a statement obtained by The PUNCH on Tuesday, the incident occurred around 1:30 pm on Saturday along the Ayele Adumu area in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The transport company revealed that the victims were traveling in an ABC Sienna en route from Enugu to Abuja when unknown individuals blocked and attacked oncoming vehicles, leading to the abduction of the driver and passengers.
“The two passengers and the bus driver were led into the bush alongside other passengers of other vehicles and have since been held hostage,” the statement read in part.
ABC Transport assured the public that it is actively cooperating with relevant security agencies to swiftly resolve the matter. The safety and well-being of passengers and crew remain the company’s top priority, and necessary measures are being taken to ensure a prompt and thorough resolution.
The incident adds to the growing concerns over the spike in kidnapping cases across major highways in the country. Recent incidents include the abduction of a driver, teachers, and pupils in Ekiti State, as well as the murder of two Ekiti monarchs.
The Kogi State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that efforts are underway to rescue the victims. The Divisional Police Officer of the area, along with local vigilantes and hunters, is leading rescue operations in the bush where the victims are believed to be held.
Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bethrand Onuoha, has deployed additional tactical squads to intensify rescue efforts and ensure the safe retrieval of all victims.
ABC Transport emphasized the importance of relying on official statements for accurate information and expressed gratitude for the cooperation of passengers, stakeholders, and the public during this challenging time. The company reiterated its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and security for passengers and staff.
