15 Rescued, 1 Missing After Boat Collision in Lagos

A passenger ferry met with an unfortunate accident this evening in Lagos, colliding with an unexpected shoreline concrete near the power line corridor at the Lekki Ikoyi Link Bridge. Reports indicate that not less than 15 individuals have been rescued from the scene, while one person remains missing as of the latest update.

The incident, which occurred around 6:50 pm on Wednesday, involved an Ibeshe-bound passenger ferry named Tee Ben that had departed from Addax jetty. According to statements from the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), the collision resulted in one confirmed casualty and one passenger sustaining injuries.

Rescue operations swiftly commenced following the accident, with officers from the Search and Rescue Unit of LASWA, the Marine Unit of the Nigerian Police Force, and other relevant agencies mobilized to the scene. Despite the prompt response, one individual is still unaccounted for, highlighting the ongoing urgency of the situation.

Wuraola Alake of the Public Relations Unit of LASWA emphasized that rescue efforts are ongoing, underscoring the collaborative efforts of multiple agencies involved in the operation.
