Entrepreneurship classes in high school

The Newman Grove Community Foundation is currently assisting with Entrepreneurship education at Newman Grove Public School. The Foundation has purchased thirty sets of entrepreneurship workbooks which are being used by junior high career and business students at the school. The workbooks are designed to help students investigate their potential to be an entrepreneur. These books were written by Nebraska teachers and were purchased with the assistance of Newman Grove graduate Sarah Nelson who works with the Madison County Extension Office.

The Foundation is also assisting four high school students who are participating in the Entrepreneurs in Action program at Central Community College. The program, in its second year, assists students in starting their own businesses. During the course of the program, students will develop a business plan while working with instructors from Central Community College and mentors from the Columbus area. The mentors volunteer their time to assist students in various areas of business ownership including finance, insurance, law, and marketing.

At the completion of the program, the students will present their products or services at a showcase at CCC in the spring. Students who complete the program will receive college credit from CCC. Additionally, the Newman Grove Community Foundation is assisting the students to help cover some of their expenses involved with the program.
