Tournament champs.  Go, Lady Jays!

Lady Jays win Creighton Holiday Tournament

The Newman Grove Lady Jays finally got back into action after a two and a half week layoff. The last two games before Christmas were postponed because of the weather. Our first round opponent at the Creighton Holiday Tournament was the Hartington Lady Wildcats.

We started the game slowly, falling behind 13-6 at the end of the first quarter. The rest of the game belonged to the Lady Jays as we outscored the Lady Wildcats 45-24 over the next three quarters. The win secured a spot in the championship against the host team Creighton.

The Lady Jays took on the host Creighton Lady Bulldogs for the championship of the Creighton Holiday tournament. The Lady Jays held the lead through the first half and went into halftime with a five point lead 21-16.

The Lady Bulldogs persisted and got to within one point at the end of the third quarter. They took the lead for a while in the fourth quarter, taking advantage of some poor free throw shooting by the Lady Jays. There was no quit in the Lady Jays as we fought back to regain the lead. We were able to hit some key free throws down the stretch when it really counted that gave us the victory.

The team would like to thank all of the fans for their awesome support during the tournament. This is the first time since 2000 that they Lady Jays have won the Creighton Holiday Tournament. Great job, Ladies!

Our record now stands at 3-3 on the season. Next up is a make up game with Elkhorn Valley on January 5th, and at Plainview on January 10th.
