Jays spoil Falcons’ homecoming

Coach Bill Mimick

The Newman Grove Bluejay football team traveled to Tilden on Friday, October 10, for Elkhorn Valley’s Homecoming football game. The local squad didn’t turn out to be very good guests taking a 62-14 win with them back to Newman Grove.

The Jays scored on their first 5 possessions of the game, taking control early against the Falcons.

The Jays offense had 518 running, passing yards. Unsung starters in the offense doing most if the work up front were center Jared Rasmussen, guards Travis McCloud and Jake Kaufman, and ends Luke Gasper and Clint Leifeld. Other lineman rotated in after the first few series and contributed well. Jays backfield personnel have been and continue to block well for each other.

Ten different Bluejays carried the ball during the game. Three different quarterbacks threw passes and 6 different receivers had pass receptions.

On defense 23 separate Bluejays recorded stats for the team, making this a good team effort. The defense held Elkhorn Valley to only 2 first downs in the first half.

This was a good game as the starters were able to take care of business early and all suited up and saw at least 3 quarters of play.

The Bluejays now 4 wins 2 losses for the season-host an improving North Central Knights on Friday, October 17, at 2:00pm.
