Postmaster Kroeger gives a holiday sneak peek
With the holidays just around the corner, here’s what you can expect at the Post Office this season.
On October 23, four holiday nutcracker stamps will debut at the Post Office. The eye catching nutcracker designs – Santa, a king, a captain, and a drummer – will add colorful, humorous touches to 2008 winter holiday cards, letters and packages.
Also debuting at Post Offices on October 23 will be this year’s traditional Christmas stamp, which features work from a detail of painting titled, “Virgin and Child With the Young John the Baptist” by the Italian master Sandro Botticelli. The painting, tempera and oil on wood, dates to around 1490 and is now in the collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art.
This holiday season, the Post Office features a larger Priority Mail Flat Rate box that makes mailing a snap. Ship as much as can be properly secured in the box, up to 70 pounds, to any U.S. location for only $12.95. And there’s a $2 military discount when shipping the large Flat Rate box to an Army Post Office (APO) or Fleet Post Office (FPO) address. Flat rate boxes may also be sent internationally.
