Boys and Girls Bowling, State Runners Up

The Newman Grove Boy’s Bowling Team competed in the Class D State Bowling Championship in Lincoln on February 9 and 10.

The boys bowled on Saturday to determine their bracket seeding. The boys bowled excellent and finished as the number two seed. The team started the first round against Clarkson, and swept the Red Devils in three games.

The next opponent was the Dodge Pirates. Dodge took the Bluejays to a fifth game, before the boys came out on top, three games to two. With the victory it placed the boys in the finals against the Howells Bobcats.

The finals are a televised event, run just like the PBA Professional Tour. The Bluejays put up a valiant effort, pushing Howells to a fifth game, losing by four pins in the 10th frame.

We would like to thank the team consisting of Keith Backus, Tanner Krueger, Jon Dohmen, Jared Rasmussen, Jake Kaufman, John Lorenzen and Josh London, for their fine effort and excellent teamwork. They are a great bunch of guys to work with.

We would like to thank all the parents and fans who followed the team to Lincoln and all year long. It means a lot to the team.

Three girls placed in the top ten individual series; Olivia Wiese 5th, Shawna Davidson 7th, and Aubrey Strong 8th, they all received certificates.

Team members: freshmen Aubrey Strong; sophomore Olivia Weise; junior Skye Rosno; and senior Shawna Davidson.

Next year 2008-2009 we are hoping for more girls to come out and bowl, we can have seven on a team.
