Family Carnival a success
The second annual Family Carnival held at the Community Center was enjoyed by many, of all ages, on June 11th and 12th, during the Shell Creek Valley Days celebration. This event was sponsored by Salem, Shell Creek, and ZionChurches, with all proceeds designated to area missions.
Several new games added to the carnival excitement this year. They included Boat Races, Cat & Mouse, Color Game, Leaping Lizards, and Frog Toss provided by “House of M” of Columbus. “Schafer Laser Tag” of Wayne set up on the west side of the Community Center and afforded entertainment to an energetic group of kids, on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday, Mule Train rides were given to the kids of all ages. A returning “big hit” was the dunk tank with Pastor Becky Beckmann, Greg Steensnes and Dustin Martin spending much of their time “on board”, waiting to make the big splash! Several spectators also volunteered for a “dunk” or two. The Gyrosphere was furnished and operated by Barry Wallin, as well as by several church volunteers. Happy the Clown was a returning guest to the carnival, along with friends, “Go” and “Lucky”. As a trio, they were called, “Happy, Go, Lucky”. Both Happy and Lucky drew large audiences with their quick act at making balloon animals. Lucky also had a real knack at juggling.
