Holy Family loses opener to Clarkson

John McPhillips

On September 3rd, the home opener for the Lindsay Bulldogs versus the Clarkson Red Devils started well. John McPhillip’s kick off sailed into the end zone starting the season. For the first quarter, the Bulldog defense played well, not allowing Clarkson a first down, while the offense led by junior quarterback Trevor Lindhorst, moved the ball using a variety Lewiston running plays, finally scoring on a 2 yard plunge by Lindhorst. Leading by a score of 6-0, the defense again shut down the Red Devils as Klassen and Frisch dominated the line.

The tide turned on Lindsay’s next possession as the Red Devil’s Grant Bond intercepted a pass and ran it in for a touchdown. Kucera added the extra point. Once again the Bulldog defense held Clarkson. A booming punt trapped the Bulldogs within their own ten yard line and a penalty put them on their own two yard line. On the next play, the Bulldogs fumbled in the end zone with Clarkson recovering for a touchdown. After this turnover along with several fumbled punts and the hard running of Kucera, the Devil’s running back, the Bulldogs were down 36-6 at halftime.

#88 Anthony Klassen completes the two point conversion.

In the second half, coach Schumacher made key adjustments which caused the Bulldog offense to come alive, scoring 20 points in the second half as Tony Klassen caught 7 passes for 98 yards. Clarkson’s offense punished the Bulldog defense as they scored two more touchdowns winning the game 50 – 26.

The offensive stats leaders are Trevor Lindhorst with 17 carries for 33yards, 2 TD’s and 125 yards passing. Brandon Werner had 5 carries for 27 yards. Calvin Frisch had 11 carries for 16 yards and Caleb Lindhorst 5 carries for 27 yards. Anthony Klassen led the receivers with 98 yards. John McPhillips had 26 yards receiving and 1 TD. Total offensive yards were 237 yards.

The leading tacklers were Brandon Werner with 2 unassisted, 13 assists and 1 sack for loss. Dale Frisch with 9 assists and Kyle Frauendorfer with 6 assisted sacks.
