Energy camper Andrea Weeder wins trip to Washington, D.C.

Cornhusker Power energy camper Andrea Weeder was voted one of three to represent Nebraska next June as an ambassador at the National Rural Electric Cooperation Association Washington D.C. Youth Rally. She is the daughter of Richard and Ann Weeder of Lindsay and is a sophomore at Lindsay Holy Family. The campers chose her at the Nebraska Rural Electric Youth Energy Camp July 19 to 23 in Halsey. She will also be a junior camp counselor in Halsey for 2011.

At camp, campers compete to be an ambassador. To be chosen, they give a talk to the other 64 campers, who vote for their favorite.

The top ten vote getters give a speech at a banquet. Andrea’s topic was, “Green energy is a popular subject these days. What do you see as advantages and disadvantages of using renewable energies? What role should conservation play?” Andrea’s speech gave her opinion that renewable energies will always be there, but are expensive.

Weeder said, “Energy camp was a lot of fun. I was able to meet many new people and learned a lot too.”

Cole Freudenburg of Madison and Justin Korth of Randolph were also selected as 2011 Ambassadors and will be traveling to Washington D.C. with Andrea.
