Gyrosphere at the Family Carnival.

Family Carnival enjoyed during Shell Creek Valley Days

The Shell Creek Valley Days first annual Family Carnival was a big success. This event was sponsored by Salem, Shell Creek, and Zion Churches, with all proceeds designated to area missions.

The inclement weather did not dampen the excitement during the two day carnival held at the Community Center on June 12th and 13th. On Saturday, most games and concessions were set up on the street east of the center with a few games and ticket sales inside. With the rain on Sunday morning, most games were moved indoors. After rains subsided, the outdoor activities then came to life.

A large variety of games and attractions afforded spectators fun entertainment and prizes. A big hit was the dunk tank with Pastor Becky Beckmann, John Williamson, Dustin Martin, and Hunter Steinbach as the assigned “dunkees”. Several spectators also volunteered for a “dunk” or two. Another favorite attraction was the Gyrosphere which was furnished by Barry Wallin. Spencer Wallin volunteered his time to operate and teach the church volunteers how to run the contraption. An all-time favorite of the small children was the Duck Pool, which guaranteed every participant a prize. Balloon Darts and Wheel of Fun were enjoyed by all ages. Several other games added to the variety of entertainment offered.

Happy the clown makes balloon animals for the kids.

Happy the Clown made guest appearances throughout the two days making balloon animals and visiting with the children. Little spectators watched in awe as to how the clown could do this so gracefully and so quickly!

For the hungry and thirsty visitors, the concession stand offered typical carnival food of cotton candy, popcorn, peanuts, and pop.

On Saturday afternoon, a Kiddy Pedal Pull was held at the Shell Creek Church parking lot. This sanctioned pedal pull was hosted by Dick Bender and crew of Lindsay, with church volunteers helping out. Results of the pedal pull are: 3-4 year old division: Trent Patzel 1st, Mason Nelson 2nd, and Max Labenz 3rd. 5-6 year old division: Ellie Rankin 1st, Autumn Patzel 2nd, and Macy Rankin 3rd. 7-8 year old division: Chela Claussen 1st, Kayla Thompson 2nd, and Sabryn Labenz 3rd. 9-10 year old division: Brady Sokol 1st, Payton Nelson 2nd, and Abby Furhoff 3rd. 11-13 year old division: Adrian Lauck 1st, Austin Lauck 2nd, and Alisha Lauck 3rd.
