At the three mile corner last Wednesday an anhydrous ammonia truck overturned while turning north toward Newman Grove.

The semi-truck hauling anhydrous ammonia had taken the corner too fast coming from the west to the highway going north to Newman Grove and overturned.
Anhydrous ammonia is a hazardous material and had to be dealt with carefully and according to safety regulations.
The accident happened sometime before 8:30am and at noon they were still in the process of righting the tank.
“Those tanks are made like army tanks,” said Randy Benson of the Farmers’ Pride in Newman Grove. Even after being turned on to its side there was no leaks or damage enough to have to remove the substance into other tanks.
Through the use of two wrecker trucks and one boom truck they were able to reattach the tank to a different semitractor and drive it on to Newman Grove.
The intended destination was Battle Creek Farmers’ Coop, but since Newman Grove is part of that Coop now they delivered it there.
Since anhydrous ammonia is such a volatile material Newman Grove Schools were locked down until everything was safe. But there never was a time of any danger during the whole procedure.
