Lindsay Holy Family Girls take first at Conference; Boys take third

Last Friday the 2010 Cornhusker Conference meet was held in Fullerton. The Jr. High and High School would perform on the same day. The Jr. High running events took place during the high school field events and vice versa. Holy Family was looking for a Conference title and they would be given a run for their money by St. Francis.

The Lindsay Holy Family Lady Bulldogs pulled off the victory and won the meet by a score of 149-119 over Humphrey St. Francis Lady Flyers. Taylor Bender got things started for LHF by winning discus with a throw of 110’07.00”. She also took first in the shot with a throw of 35’07.50”. The high jump was won by Melissa Schumacher (4’10.00”). Torie Wiese took fifth in long jump (15’11.50”) and second in the triple jump (35’02.50”).

After racking up some points in the field events, Holy Family got the running events off to a solid start by winning the 4x800 meter relay (10:12.50). Stacy Beller and Shuraya Frauendorfer took third and fourth in the 100 meter hurdles. Beller ran a time of 17.00 and Frauendorfer ran a 17.1. Torie Wiese carried her success over into the running events by placing fourth in the 100 meter dash (13.2). Natalie Korus ran the open 400 placing fifth with a time of 1:03.80. Andrea Weeder and Melanie Fehringer took first and third in the 3200 meter run. Stacy Beller placed second in the 300 meter hurdles (49.3). Holy Family had success in the 800 meter run taking fist (Andrea Weeder), second (Breanna Korus), and third (Melissa Schumacher).

Andrea Weeder also took first in the mile but was matched stride for stride by Breanna Korus. Their times were 5:34.4 and 5:34.5. Holy Family took third in the 4x100 meter relay (52.4) and second in the 4x400 meter relay 4:19.90). It was a good day for Holy Family as both Junior High and High School girls took home the conference titles.

On the boys' side, Holy Family’s Trevor Lindhorst placed fourth in the discus.

Holy Family’s 4x8 relay, consisting of Kelan Schumacher, Kyle Wegener, Carl Frisch, and Andrew Kurtenbach took first. Shawn Korth took first in a 110m hurdles photo finish 110m with Anthony Klassen taking sixth.

Kevin Weeder took the top spot in the 1600 setting a new conference record with a time of 4:46. Weeder also took the top spot in the 3200. Isaac Kurtenbach got fourth in the 1600 and Ross Sueper took fifth in the 3200. Kyle Wegener placed second in the 300m hurdles and Shawn Korth took fifth. Andrew Kurtenbach placed first in the 800 and Kelan Schumacher took second.

Holy Family’s 4x4 relay team consisting of Austin Preister, Trevor Lindhorst, Isaac Kurtenbach and Scott Hemmer took fifth. Lindsay competed well and is preparing to continue their success down the stretch.
