Lindsay Holy Family Bulldogs are District Speech Champions

The Lindsay Holy Family Speech Team traveled to Wheeler Central for District Speech. The teams that competed were Cedar Rapids, Spalding/Spalding Academy, St. Edward, Elba, Elgin, Greeley- Wolbach, Pope John and Wheeler Central.

The Speech team finished in first place with 101 points while Cedar Rapids finished second with 70 points. “We smoked them,” said Head Coach China Wiese. The team’s reaction after finishing first was speechless because there were so anxious and happy about being District Champions.

The team qualified 11 individuals to state in only 9 events. Those qualifying for State are: Zach Hemmer placing third with “Homeland Insecurity” in Humorous along with Torie Wiese placing first with “The Cure.” In Serious, Torie Wiese took the Gold with “Abigail’s Angel.” In Duet, Taylor Johnston and Jessica Preister placed third with “Graceland.” In OID, the Boys teams consisting of Kevin Weeder, Kyle Wegener, Caleb Lindhorst, Austin Preister, and Jack Schnitzler placed third.

In Entertainment, Zach Hemmer placed third and Kyle Wegener placed first with “Red Neck.” In Extemporaneous, Caleb Lindhorst placed first. In Informative, Melissa Schumacher placed third with “Crayola.”

Those competing but not making it to State are Kelan Schumacher in Serious with “Smee” who placed sixth; the girls OID team got fifth consisting of Stacy Beller, Tracy Oberhauser, Jessica Preister, Taylor Johnston and Tessa Kurtenbach; Kevin Weeder in Extemporaneous placed fourth; Stacy Beller in Poetry with “Grandmothers”; Tessa Kurtenbach in Informative with “Congenital Heart defect” as her topic. Coach China Wiese, said “The whole speech team worked hard and consistently all year.”
