Wallin-Kuntz named National Coach of the Year finalist

LaVede Wallin

Bonnie Wallin-Kuntz was recently selected as a 2010 National Coach of the Year finalist by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association. She has been an active part of Otis R-3 School District for 23 years in the capacity of classroom and physical education teacher, coach and athletic director.

Hundreds of nominations are made for NCOTY, but only eight are selected as finalists in each of the twenty sports and athletic director categories. Her nomination and selection as a finalist put her in the ranks of top coaches and directors in the nation.

In her career (twenty years as head coach) she has taken 14 volleyball teams to state tournaments, winning three championships, one state runner-up and 2 third place finishes. She holds an overall record of 395 wins and 138 losses.

Wallin Kuntz will be honored at the National Awards Banquet in Sioux Falls, SD, on June 23. It is at this banquet that the 2010 NCOTY recipients will be announced.

Bonnie is the daughter of Merlin and LaVede Wallin of Newman Grove. She has three children: Karsin, a senior; Kati, a sophomore; and Kylee, a sixth grader. Her husband Roger is a wheat farmer and does commercial spraying.
