Events from Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home

Residents of the Mid Nebraska Lutheran Home were excited on Saturday, January 16th,-the 103rd birthday of Emelene Boschen. The dining room was decorated in brightly colored birthday table cloths with balloons on every table. Since Emelene enjoys music, Jeff Temme from Petersburg entertained with playing guitar and singing a variety of songs. Pastor Dave spoke and praised Emelene on her strong faith in God. Ray Herbert and Jeff closed the program with singing Borning Cry. Sharon Lapka accompanied them on the piano. Pastor Gary Duhachek, nephew of Emelene, blessed the lunch. Gloria Boschen provided Emelene’s favorite for lunch-cinnamon rolls.

Emelene’s son, Glen Boschen and friend Dorothy, Grandson George Boschen and daughter, Gloria Boschen, Gary & Judy Duhachek, Carol Kralik, friends and residents attended the party. Emelene stated “I feel so good, I think I will make 104”. This is the attitude that helped Emelene make 103 years.

Residents of Mid Nebraska Lutheran Home have been asking to make ice cream using snow for ice. Since we have plenty of snow to use, Wednesday was the day to crank up some ice cream using snow.

We found out snow does not freeze ice cream nearly as fast as ice does. So after cranking and cranking, we added ice to the snow and soon the cranking became too hard for our top cranker, Ewald Otten, to turn. We then knew we had succeeded in making ice cream. We enjoyed the ice cream in the afternoon, with birthday cake provided by Darlene Korus’s family for Darlene’s birthday.
