Lady Jays take first place at Holiday Tournament

The Newman Grove Lady Jays took first place in the holiday tournament at Grand Island Heartland Lutheran. The girls defeated Giltner in the first contest in overtime 54-52. Newman Grove took control of the first 3 quarters, but the Hornets outscored the Lady Jays 13 to 8 in the fourth quarter to tie. Newman Grove worked hard on defense and stopped Giltner from getting off a last second shot.

In the championship game, the girls competed against GI Heartland Lutheran. The Lady Jays kept the pressure on the whole time with 28 steals to win the game 48-31. Nine girls scored with the team shooting 34%. Newman Grove’s next contest is against Clarkson on January 4.
