Vespers service held

Fellowship Bible Choir sings at the annual Vespers Service.

The Ministerial Fellowship held the annual Vespers Service this last Sunday afternoon. Salem Lutheran Church hosted “Christmas in the Country,” a theme that seemed right for the day since the first dusting of snow had just fallen.

The snow did not damper enthusiasm; the service was well attended.

Vespers is a long tradition in the Newman Grove area. The program is made up of music and readings from local congregations.

The Cederlind Sisters performed at the Vespers Service. Pictured (L-R): Patty Carpenter, Lynda Pospisil, Coleen Albracht and Lynette Fowlkes.

Choirs came from the Salem, Shell Creek, and Zion Lutheran parish; and from Lindsay Holy Family, Fellowship Bible Church, Newman Grove United Methodist Church, and Trinity Lutheran Church. Grace Bible Church contributed a reading, and the Cederlind Sisters also performed.

The offering was $355. This will be matched by the Ministerial Fellowship, which will then send donations to the rescue missions in Norfolk and Columbus and to the Newman Grove Food Pantry.

Becky Beckmann, pastor at Salem, invited all present to refreshments after the service.
