Making it all better: Welcome, Pete’s Paint and Body

Kenneth Purscell

Life can be hard on a car. But when Pete and Rocki Bollig run through the list, they don’t just see damage. They see an opportunity to make it right.

“We do general body work,” says Pete, whose business, Pete’s Paint and Body, just opened a week ago. When I asked him to elaborate, his wife Rocki took up the list.

“Windshields,” she begins. Then between the two of them the hard knocks of automotive life emerged. “Body work, rust, accidents, repairs, replacements, paint, insurance work.”

“We love to do any insurance work,” Pete injects. But then his eyes twinkle. “Restorations,” he says, “I really like to do restorations.”

His favorite projects are old muscle cars such as Mustangs or Impalas. But, of course, he will work on anything.

Pete worked for Don Shumacher for a year before buying the business. He and Rocki have lived in Newman Grove for about three years. “It took a long time for the sale to be completed,” says Rocki. “So we’d like to thank people for being so patient with us.”

“We’d especially like to thank Donny and Janet for their help and for the opportunity they gave us to buy the business,” says Pete.

The couple has five boys, three of whom are still at home. “They’re all gear heads,” says Pete with a smile. Two of them are on the Bluejay football team, so Pete is very enthusiastic when he says, “Go Jays!”

We had hoped to get a picture of the new sign out front, but it had not yet arrived. People looking for body work on their car can find them at 104 S. 6th Street, just south of the alley. Their phone is 447-2400.

Welcome to Pete’s Paint and Body, the new business in town, fixing what time, the elements, and the bumps of life have treated harshly.
