The Albion Area Arts Council marks 30 years of service
The Albion Area Arts Council will begin its 30th season by partnering with the Olson Nature Preserve stewards to present The Enchanted Trail. This event will be held on the evening of Saturday, October 3rd from 7 to 9:30 pm at the ONP site north of Loretto. The theme of this year’s event will be O Pioneers! and will feature Nebraska’s Secretary of State, John Gale portraying “Cactus Jack“ to share stories from the past and visions for the future. There will also be guided trail walks, a sing-a-long led by Pastor Larry Sydow, and treats for children provided by the Boone Central PTO. This event is for all ages and admission is free.
Nebraska Shakespeare will present Macbeth in the Boone Central Gym in Albion on Sunday, October 18th at 7 p.m. They will perform again for area school students the following morning (the public is welcome to attend) and conduct one-on-one workshops with students in the afternoon. A talk-back session will follow each performance, allowing the audience to learn more about both Shakespeare and the performers.
The AAAC will step back in time on December 6th when they present Broad Appeal, a trio of accomplished female vocalists who bring the music of the ‘Hit Parade’ era -- and the stories behind it -- to life.
The Nebraska Wesleyan University Choir will perform at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion at 7 pm, Friday, January 15th, 2010. The Nebraska Wesleyan Choir is recognized throughout this country and internationally for performance excellence and a diverse repertoire.
Celebrate Valentine’s Day at the Albion Country Club with fine dining and the original cabaret Some People: Songs of Broadway and Beyond featuring the exquisite vocals of seasoned performer Mary Carrick accompanied by pianist Todd Brooks. From Broadway classics and today’s favorites, this thoroughly entertaining program includes show stopping hits, tender ballads, and whimsical tunes from the greatest composers of yesterday and today.
On Sunday, March 21st, Jill Anderson will return to Albion with Bernie and Erin Lowis to present Celtic Cabaret; a fascinating overview of Irish music and verse. Through haunting laments, rousing military marches, comedic novelty songs, classic poetry, lively jigs and reels and passionate ballads, the listener is taken on a tour of the Erin Isles.
On Sunday, April 18th, four of the region’s most popular and accomplished musicians, The Toasted Ponies will lay down their unique blend of bluegrass, acoustic music and original songs at the Zion Lutheran Church in Albion.
The season will conclude the week of June 21st with the Missoula Children’s Theatre. The MCT provides area children who have completed grades K-12 an opportunity to audition, rehearse and present a fun and entertaining musical play. Auditions will be held Monday, June 21st at noon with performances at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 26th.
The Albion Area Arts Council would like to thank all of its members for their on-going support.
