Jays bring home 47 medals, three gold

The Newman Grove Boys and Girls Track and Field Teams participated in the annual Mansfield Invitational Track and Field meet on Saturday, March 29.

This year seven schools participated; Boone Central, St. Edward, Cedar Rapids, Fullerton, Lindsay Holy Family, Spalding- Spalding Academy and Newman Grove.

No team scoring was kept but medals were awarded to the top 6 placers in individual events and in the relays.

Capturing gold medals with 1st place finishes for Newman Grove were Shae Wallin, 300 hurdles; freshman Audrey Wondercheck, high jump; and the boy’s 3200 meter relay team of Clint Leifeld, Tanner Krueger, Robert Plugge, and Darrek Schmidt.

A total of 47 individual and relay team medals were won by the Jays.

Boys results: Derek Stone 2nd Shot Put; Sean Farrier 3rd Shot Put, 6th Discus; Trevor Frauendorfer 5th High Jump; Blake Carter 6th High Jump; Darrek Schmidt 4th 3200, 5th 1600; Robert Plugge 5th 3200, Luke Gasper 3rd High Hurdles; Clint Leifeld 3rd 800; Tanner Krueger 5th 800; Brett Roberg 4th 200; 3200 relay team 1st Clint Leifeld, Tanner Krueger, Robert Plugge, and Darrek Schmidt; 1600 meter relay team 3rd Shane Farrier, Ben Widhalm, Blake Carter and Brett Roberg; 400 meter relay team of Brett Roberg, Alex Jacobson, Ben Widhalm and Derek Stone.

Girls results:Shae Wallin 1st 300 Hurdles, 2nd High Hurdles; Audrey Wondercheck 1st High Jump, 3rd High Hurdles, 4th 300 Hurdles; April Ramaekers 2nd 800, 2nd 3200, 6th High Jump; Ann O’Brien tied 2nd Pole Vault; Kelsey Wallin 4th Triple Jump; Kenzi Fowlkes 4th 1600; 1600 meter relay team 2nd Kelsey Wallin, Chelsea Benson, Audrey Wondercheck and Shae Wallin; 3200 meter relay team 2nd Ashley Wallin, Chelsea Benson, Katie O’Brein, and April Ramaekers; 400 meter relay team 5th Devon Doelder, Ann O’Brien, Callista Bennett and Shae Wallin.
