Seventy-Fifth Annual Olson Picnic
The seventy-fifth annual Olson Picnic was held on August 9, 2009, at the Looking Glass United Methodist Church. Sixty-three descendents of John and Betsy Olson were in attendance for at least some portion of the festivities. The gathering began at noon with a time of sharing the family news followed by a catered meal.
Paul Oster opened the meeting by leading the group in singing “America the Beautiful.” The Cousin’s Choir entertained the assembled family members with a musical number. Paul then introduced several special guests - Norma Larsen and Bob and Marilyn Cox. Following that each family represented shared the past year’s events.
The meeting closed with the traditional singing of the hymn “Blest Be the Tie That Binds” before adjourning to the dining room for the meal. Ice cream, desserts and more visiting ensued before the family assembled at the front of the church for a picture commemorating the seventy-fifth Olson Picnic.
