Community Club meets

Becky Dunlap

With the Shell Creek Valley Days behind us now, it was a somewhat quieter meeting. Some of the items discussed were the possibility of a plaque on the outside of the Community Center building sharing the date and purpose it was originally built. Did you know that the building was originally built in 1913 by Eric Hallgren? It was used as the Hallgren’s Store from 1913 to 1971!

Also there has been ongoing talk of how to get the outside sign repainted with “Newman Grove Community Center,” and also possibly a sign in the front window. These both should be done soon.

Members worked on the details for the joint meeting with the Newman Grove Community Foundation on July 31. This is going to be a Steak Fry with an inspirational speaker, great food, and a chance to see what’s planned for the growth of Newman Grove. Tickets are available from many of the members of the Community Foundation or Community Club (Randy Benson, Gene Wissenburg, Dennis McCloud, Tom Larson, Pam King, Zane Wondercheck, Tim Rossow, Larry & Kathy Killgore, Phyllis Weitzel, Becky Dunlap). Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend!

The rest of the time was spent discussing routine business like building maintenance and improvements and promotion of the Community Club and rental of the Community Center.

The Community Club welcomes your involvement and comments. We meet the first Tuesday evening of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Center. The next meeting will be August 4.
