Minne-Grovers Breakfast resurrected
Mark Johnson (NGHS ’50)
After skipping 2008, the Newman Grove Breakfast Club of Minnesota met again on June 19th, our first official breakfast get-together since November 16th, 2007. We met at the Perkins Restaurant and Bakery located on France Avenue in Bloomington, MN, one of 487 Perkins restaurants nationally. It was really noisy at our table and it was rumored that the four men were louder than the six women. The abundance of Perkins coupons at the table was perhaps proof of at least a mild recession. Some of us ordered one egg, two sausage links and two pancakes for $3.99 with coffee added for just $2.09. Beat them prices, Newman Grove!
We have often had an activity following our Newman Grove breakfasts, but this time we were satisfied with just eating and chatting. We have to remind ourselves that we are no longer teenagers.
Former Newman Grovers Audrey (Johnson) Greenlee of Hillsboro, OR; David Johanson of Stamford, CN; Bob Larson of Edmonds, WA; Jen O’Reilly of Red Wing, MN; and later Joanne (Maurstad) Hadland of Bayfield,WI; sent greetings to our group.
Our next breakfast meeting is planned for a Friday morning in August. We would enjoy having some ‘Grovers as paying guests. Let us know if your summer vacation plans include the Twin Cities of Minnesota and we can probably build a breakfast around you. Call (952-831-1153) or e-mail (baseballbooks@comcast.net) for further information. Remember, it’s always cooler in Minnesota in the summertime.
