Jordan Nelson participates in eight-man football All-Star Contest
Jordan Nelson, a 2009 graduate of Newman Grove Public School, played in the 32nd Annual Nebraska eight-man Football Coaches Association – Nebraska Sertoma Clubs All- Star Football Game at Hastings College on June 20, 2009.
Jordan played for the East Team. The West All-Stars defeated the East squad 32-22 in a good football game.
Jordan started at free safety for the East Team. He recorded three unassisted tackles, helped out on another four tackles, and broke up two passes. Jordan also played on special teams.
The East and West teams stayed at the Central Community College dorms for the camp and practice. The Sertoma Club of Hastings had activities for the athletes during the week. Jordan said it was a great experience.
Jordan’s parents, Jay and Barb Nelson, were introduced before the game. Other players from the area playing on Jordan’s East Team were Derek Classen, Jamison Warner of Humphrey St. Francis, Adam Ortmeier of Dodge, Dustin Sindelar of Howells, and Aaron Konicek of Clarkson. Players from Elgin, Ewing, and Clearwater were on the West Team.
Jordan had family members and friends come to the game and watch. The support was very much appreciated.
Jordan became the eighth Bluejay to play in the game. Proceeds from the game will go to the Nebraska Sertoma Clubs Hearing and Speech Foundation.
Newman Grove started playing 8-man football in 1986. Players from Newman Grove playing in the All-Star Contest were:
