Lindsay Holy Family girls win Class D State Track title
Steinbeck’s novel Of Mice and Men says that many times our plans and dreams do not work out. The Lindsay Holy Family girls and head coach Travis Freisen proved Steinbeck wrong as their plans did not “go awry.” On Saturday May 23rd, the Omaha Burke track became their “field of dreams” as they narrowly defeated a strong, resilient Humphrey St. Francis team 64.5 to 60.
Interestingly, the two programs have differing strengths. Lindsay’s is built around distance while St. Francis is based on speed. On Friday, the running events started with the 3200 meter relay which Lindsay won in a time of 9:57.1 while St. Francis finished second. The winning team consisted of Natalie Korus, Melanie Fehringer, Lacey McPhillips, and Breanna Korus. The freshmen duo of Weeder and Korus struck more gold in the 3200 meter run as Andrea Weeder finished first with a time of 11:26.189.
