The U.S. Census Bureau is still seeking help with the 2010 census

The 201o Census will take place in April of 2010. Preliminary work has already started in most areas across the state.

Currently we have address canvassers out in certain areas. The address canvasser’s job is to verify addresses with the aide of hand held computers equipped with GPS Technology.

In early 2010 we will be gearing up for the actual enumerating (or census taking) project. Census takers will conduct interviews with people that fail to fill out and return their official Census forms to our office.

The Census Bureau tries to keep their employees working in or near their own communities, therefore we are still seeking qualified applicants in the following counties: Loup, Wheeler and Boone Counties.

We will be conducting Census Employment tests in these counties throughout the month of April.

Those interested in applying for Census employment must come through our application and testing process. The test is a 28 question multiple choice test. The topics include: math skills, clerical skills, reading ability, organization skills and ability to read maps.

The rate of pay for address canvassers and census takers is $11.00 per hour plus .55 cents per mile for mileage reimbursement. Each project should last 5 to 10 weeks in duration.

If you are interested in applying for a Census job you should plan on attending one of the testing locations listed on the schedule.

You should bring with you: two forms of identification (most typically, your drivers license AND Social Security card OR birth certificate, or a U.S. Passport).

Military veterans should bring a copy of their DD214.

You could bring a resume’ to attach to your application if you desire (not required).
