2009 Wrestling season review

The 08-09 season proved to be a challenging yet successful season. The Co-op with Lindsay Holy Family proved to be a success for both schools and even though we moved up to Class C for this season the team entered unafraid and up to the challenge.

Season record for the team was 303 wins and 266 losses. The team brought home 5 tournament trophies, 2 – 1st place, 2 – 2nd place and 1 – 3rd place. 5 school records fell this season.

Luke Gasper set a new mark for career reversals with 96. Jordan Fowlkes set four new records; near falls in a season with 38, near falls in a career with 105, career wins with 147 and career team points with 949. Luke Gasper and Derek Stone both went over 100 career victories. Luke ended up with 114 and Derek is now sitting at 103 with his senior year still to go.

Individual win loss records were: Dylan Zoucha, 8-25; Scott Boettcher, 2-15; Jordan Fowlkes, 41-1; Sheldon Boschen, 38-7; Tyler Zoucha, 22-16; Jerett Sueper, 26-14; Matt King, 11-8; Derek Wallin, 18-23; Ross Sueper, 10-22; Luke Gasper, 38-12; Ben Jacobson, 18-18; Spencer Wallin, 5-30; Tanner Bollig, 5-25; Mark O’Brien, 7-27; Derek Stone, 42-3; Chris Harris, 10- 20.

Statistical leaders in each category are:

Takedowns – Jordan Fowlkes, 78 and Derek Stone, 71.

Escapes – Luke Gasper, 26 and Derek Wallin, 22.

Reversals – Luke Gasper, 28.

Near Falls – Jordan Fowlkes, 38; Luke Gasper, 30 and Jerett Sueper, 26.

Falls – Derek Stone, 29 and Sheldon Boschen, 24.

Team Points – Jordan Fowlkes, 265; Derek Stone, 260; Sheldon Boschen, 235 and Luke Gasper, 213.5.

We will be losing our four senior wrestlers Jordan, Luke, Tyler and Chris to graduation. They will leave holes to fill, but the underclassmen will just have to step up and do their best. Katie King and Ashley Wallin will also be leaving to move on to college so we are in the market for some statisticians to fill their spots. We would like to thank these seniors for their dedication to the sport and to their team. Without their leadership this team would not have succeeded like it did.

We ran into a rough stretch in mid January and they pulled this team together and finished with a flurry of tournament successes. There is no doubt they will go on and have successful futures. Great job to all.
