Newman Grove at State Wrestling

We sent four wrestlers to state and came away with three medals. 145 – Luke Gasper 4th, 215-Derek Stone 4th, and 112- Jordan Fowlkes 3rd.

Team record for the tournament was 11-7, Sheldon 1-2, Luke 3-2, Derek 3-2, and Jordan 4-1.

It was an incredibly tough tournament even though there were a few matches we felt we could have won. A great effort was there and they did make a great showing in Class C. Newman Grove finished 12th out of the 64 team field with 49.5 team points.

Sheldon Boschen defeated Cin Jin Faber of Kearney Catholic and lost to Cody Lambrecht of Wood River and Caleb Franklin of Oakland Craig.

Luke Gasper Defeated Tanner Day of Centennial, Jeremia Staroska of Grand Island Central Catholic, and Nick Schrunk of West Holt. Luke’s losses came to Kurt Ruh of Madison and Tyler Going of North Bend Central.

Derek Wallin had victories over Joshua Powell Kenesaw Shelton, Drew Leonard Fort Calhoun, and Tyler Salmon Filmore Central. Derek’s losses were to Jordan Heusinkvelt from St. Paul and Colton Harper of Arlington.

Jordan’s four wins were over Jesse Hays Southern Valley, Austin Starkey St. Paul, Erik Knight Central City, and Keagon Blanco of Mitchell. Jordan’s lone loss was to Sean Nagle of Kimball.
