Wrestlers battle for second at Clearwater Invite

Larry Boschen

The Jays headed to Clearwater for the final tournament before districts.

The team fared quite well, finishing 6.5 pts behind Plainview for second place and 3 points ahead of third place Howells.

Medaling for the Jays: 112-Jordan Fowlkes 1st, 119- Sheldon Boschen 1st, 130-Jerett Sueper 2nd, 135- Derek Wallin 2nd, 140-Luke Gasper 2nd, 171- Mark O’Brien 3rd, 215-Derek Stone 1st, 285-Chris Harris 4th. There were quite a few tough matches and we wrestled pretty well.

A few more team records have been broken. Jordan Fowlkes has broken the career team points record held by Jared Nygren and Luke Gasper has broken the career reversals record held by Adam Wallin. Jared had 887 points and Jordan right now is at 913, Adam had 84 reversals and Luke is at 88. At districts this week Derek Stone will be trying for his 100th career win. He now has 96 and he does have a first round match.

Up next will be districts at Wisner. This district looks to be a real meat grinder and the team is going to have to step it up and win some very tough matches to qualify.

Win-loss records going into districts: 103-Dylan Zoucha 8-23, 112-Jordan Fowlkes 36- 0, 119-Sheldon Boschen 35-3, 125-Tyler Zoucha 22-14, 130- Jerett Sueper 24-12, 135-Derek Wallin 17-21, 140-Ross Sueper 9-20, 145-Luke Gasper 32-9, 152-Ben Jacobson 16-15, 160- Tanner Bollig 5-23, 171-Mark O’Brien 7-25, 215-Derek Stone 35-1,285-Chris Harris 10-18.

Good luck to all the Jay wrestlers and we’ll see you in Wisner and then in Omaha with as many of these athletes as we can possibly qualify.
